La policía griega utilizó gas lacrimógeno en una protesta de pensionistas contra las medidas de austeridad, en la que algunos de los cientos de manifestantes trataron de tumbar una furgoneta de policía y otros quisieron romper las barreras de antidisturbios. El gobierno de Tsipras ha tenido que recortar más de mil millones de euros de las pensiones por las condiciones del rescate internacional. Debido a esto, las pensiones griegas han disminuido un 25-55% y según nuevas estadísticas casi la mitad de los pensionistas vive ahora por debajo del umbral oficial de pobreza.
