Mientras continuan las negociaciones acerca del Tratado Transatlántico (TTIP) con una notable falta de transparencia, el municipio de Saint-Gilles, uno de los dieceinueve de Bruselas, ha decidido marcar simbólicamente su oposición al tratado y el previsible impacto social, económico y ecológico, negativo, declarándose "Zona libre de TTIP". Otras ciudades en Bélgica y Francia han tomado la misma iniciativa. Si el efecto bola de nieve sigue, podría tener cierta influencia a la hora de discutir el tratado en los parlamentos regionales.
