Black Health Initiative (Leeds) ha alertado de las "celebraciones" de mutilación genital femenina (MGF) que están teniendo lugar en ciudades de toda Inglaterra, y señala que están llegando matronas de África específicamente para llevarlas a cabo. Las últimas cifras del Servicio Nacional de Salud muestran que más de 8000 mujeres han sido identificadas recientemente como víctimas de MGF. La mutilación genital femenina es la eliminación parcial o total de los genitales externos por razones no médicas, es ilegal en Reino Unido y puede conllevar una sentencia de hasta 14 años de cárcel.
