Los proveedores de servicios de Internet en Estados Unidos ahora podrán acelerar o ralentizar los datos de las distintas empresas y cobrar a los consumidores según los servicios a los que accedan, aunque estarán obligados a divulgar dichas prácticas. La neutralidad de la red que se aplicaba hasta ahora, introducida con Obama, sirvió como ejemplo para normas similares en la UE. La Comisión Federal de Comunicaciones de EEUU votó 3 a 2 a favor de cambiar la neutralidad de la red y reducir la restricción que impediía priorizar un servicio sobre otro a los proveedores de banda ancha.
