10,000 soldati e poliziotti sono coinvolti nell'ultima operazione delle autorità ungheresi per tenere migranti e richiedenti asilo fuori dal paese. Una recinzione di filo spinato è stata posta lungo il confine serbo-ungherese, interno all'area Schengen. In base ai dati del governo ungherese, in media 130 persone attraversano questo confine ogni giorno. Una nuova legge consente all'Esercito Ungherese e alla polizia di arrestare e rimpatriare chiunque venga trovato all'interno dell'Ungheria entro 8 km dalla recinzione, ma nella pratica viene arrestato anche chi viene trovato molto più lontano.
