Siete personas con supuestos vínculos con el movimiento que intentó dar el golpe de Estado el 15 de julio en Turquía fueron detenidas cuando intentaban huir de Bulgaria el 14 de octubre. Las autoridades búlgaras entregaron a los hombres a Turquía sin informar al Defensor del Pueblo ni a las organizaciones de derechos humanos como el Comité Helsinki de Bulgaria, en contra de lo que dicta tanto la legislación internacional como la Constitución búlgara. Este tipo de expulsiones se están convirtiendo en una práctica habitual después de que Abdullah Buyuk fuera entregado a Turquía el 10 de agosto.
