According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in 2014 military equipment was exported to 35 countries that are serial human rights violators. This often regards states without any democratic control of the armed forces, an independent judiciary, or government elites accountable to citizens. The fact that there was 56.56 percent more military material sent to these countries in 2014 than in 2013 is alarming. Human Rights groups want the country to adopt the "golden rule," which states that arms exports must not under any circumstances contribute to human rights violations.
