The Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights has presented an amicus curiae brief in the case of Mr. Ryszard, who was hit by a car. Ryszard considered the amount offered by the insurer insufficient and sued the perpetrator for compensation for moral loss, seeking an award of 12,000 euros. The district court in Sosnowiec awarded him compensation, but limited it to 2,500 euros because the consequences of the accident are not as long lasting or severe for him as they would be for a younger person. In HFHR’s opinion, it can be considered an example of age discrimination.
