Po raz pierwszy kobieta zostanie przeszkolona na elitarnego żołnierza holenderskiej marynarki wojennej. Kurs został otwarty dla kobiet w styczniu 2017 r. przez minister obrony Jeannine Hennis-Plasschaert. Przez 351 lat szkolenie było dostępne wyłącznie dla mężczyzn. Niezwykle ciężkie warunki przyjęcia są takie same dla kobiet i dla mężczyzn. W elitarnej jednostce pracuje około 2300 osób. Kobiety nadal nie są w stanie pracować na łodziach podwodnych, ale to się zmieni, gdy Ministerstwo Obrony zacznie kupować nowe okręty.
