Si è scoperto che i Servizi investigativi speciali hanno registrato le conversazioni telefoniche di 17 giornalisti del Baltic News Service. Un giudice della Corte Distrettuale di Vilnius ha permesso ai Servizi segreti di intercettare tutti i giornalisti del BNS, ad eccezione di quelli sportivi. Secondo la BNS questo abuso avrebbe potuto mettere in pericolo le fonti confidenziali e ha violato senza motivo la privacy dei propri dipendenti. Il BNS ha dichiarato: "l'intercettazione dei giornalisti viola pesantemente la libertà di stampa ed è assolutamente inaccettabile in uno stato di diritto."
