Istruzione, housing, lavoro, prevenzione del crimine - queste sono le priorità individuate dal vice-sindaco di Vilnius nel nuovo programma per l'integrazione dei rom. Ci sono 2,100 rom in Lituania, di cui 500 vivono in un insediamento a Vilnius, che è più una baraccopoli che una zona residenziale. Il precedente sindaco era solito intervenire in maniera punitiva, demolendo le costruzioni abusive nell'insediamento rom per ottenere consensi - mentre le autorità neo-elette considerano questo approccio "inumano" e stanno costituendo una commissione municipale per affrontare i problemi dei rom.
