La Corte Europea dei Diritti Umani ha condannato il Belgio per aver lasciato che una famiglia di richiedenti asilo, compresi cinque bambini, vivesse in condizioni di estrema povertà per un mese, per strada, prima di essere rimandata in Serbia. I giudici non si sono espressi sulla domanda di asilo, ma hanno dichiarato che lasciare una coppia con figli vivere in quelle condizioni costituisca violazione dell'articolo 3 della Convenzione Europea sui Diritti Umani ("trattamento inumano e degradante").
