Il Senato Olandese ha approvato una legge che rende tutti gli adulti donatori di organi a meno che non esplicitino il rifiuto. La legge era passata per un soffio nella camera bassa del Parlamento. Il promotore, Pia Dijkstra, ha dichiarato che in base al nuovo sistema - simile a quello in Belgio e Spagna - tutti i maggiorenni non ancora registrati come donatori riceveranno una lettera in cui si chiede se vogliono donare i loro organi dopo la morte. Chi non risponde alla prima o alla seconda lettera (sei settimane dopo) sarà considerato donatore. Si può cambiare posizione in qualunque momento.
