Nonostante l'attenzione internazionale che circonda il controverso disegno di legge sull'Olocausto, la cancelliera tedesca Angela Merkel si è rifiutata di commentarlo quando le è stato chiesto sabato scorso. La legge prevede il carcere fino a tre anni per chi allude al fatto che il paese è stato complice dell'Olocausto. La Merkel ha dichiarato di non volersi intromettere negli affari interni della Polonia, aggiungendo: "Noi tedeschi siamo responsabili di quanto avvenuto durante l'Olocausto, la Shoah, sotto il Nazionalsocialismo".
