La sezione europea dell'Associazione Internazionale Lesbiche, Gay, Bisessuali, Transessuali e Intersessuali (ILGA-Europe) ha rilasciato un comunicato insieme alla Federazione Spagnola delle associazioni LGBT sulla recente elezione di un giudice della Corte Europea dei Diritti Umani. La spagnola María Elósegui è stata molto criticata per le sue dichiarazioni omofobiche e transfobiche, come "l'omosessualità causa malattie" o le persone transessuali dovrebbero iniziare una "terapia psicologica e psichiatrica". Secondo ILGA-Europe, i giudici devono avere "una mente aperta, libera da pregiudizi".
