La Romania ha fatto pochi passi in avanti in tema di lotta alla corruzione nelle istituzioni statali nel 2017, secondo un nuovo rapporto dell'agenzia anti-corruzione del Consiglio d'Europa, GRECO. Ha recepito pienamente soltanto 2 delle 13 raccomandazioni che il GRECO ha fatto nel 2016 e resta la preoccupazione per la mancanza di trasparenza nel processo legislativo - una delle raccomandazioni chiave disattese. Transparency International colloca la Romania tra gli stati membri UE più corrotti e il suo sistema della giustizia è al momento oggetto di monitoraggio da parte di Bruxelles.
