I politici irlandesi hanno votato per porre fine alle limitazioni costituzionali all'aborto e consentire di praticarlo fino alla 12esima settimana di gravidanza. Dopo il voto, i membri del parlamento riuniti nella Commissione Oirechtas sull'Ottavo Emendamento hanno chiesto l'abrogazione del comma 40.3.3 della Costituzione, che vieta l'aborto e hanno chiesto che siano introdotte nuove leggi per depenalizzare l'aborto in alcuni casi. La speranza ora è che l'opinione pubblica voti per la riforma al referendum del prossimo maggio.
