La compagnia americana Airbnb ha posto fine alla pratica di processare i numeri di identificazione nazionale olandesi (BSN) su richiesta dell'autorità per la protezione dei dati. Airbnb estrae automaticamente i BSN da tutte le copie digitali dei passaporti. Questo avverrebbe anche con i passaporti inviati precedentemente. Per affittare una casa attraverso Airbnb, occorre caricare una copia del proprio passaporto. D'ora in poi per gli utenti dovrebbe essere più facile proteggere il proprio BSN. Se i visitatori di Airbnb invieranno ancora il proprio BSN, Airbnb lo rimuoverà dai suoi archivi.
