L'organismo di monitoraggio sui diritti umani sottolinea in una lettera che dopo il referendum si sono diffusi attacchi razzisti, antisemiti e omofobici e li ha definiti "macchie per la nostra società." L'EHRC si è detta "preoccupata che gli attacchi ai sostenitori di entrambe le parti del dibattito sulla Brexit abbiano polarizzato molti partiti del paese," e ha esortato i politici a scegliere con cura le parole da usare.
