E' quanto gli osservatori europei sulla privacy, riuniti nell'Article 29 Working Party, hanno scritto in una lettera aperta a WhatsApp. Gli osservatori hanno reagito ad una recente modifica dei termini di utilizzo di WhatsApp, secondo cui il servizio di messaggistica potrà condividere i dati con Facebook. Per WhatsApp, questo aumenta la soddisfazione del cliente, ma nella pratica ha uno scopo essenzialmente commerciale: inviare messaggi e pubblicità orientata agli utenti.
