Il Tribunale Distrettuale dell'Aia ha ordinato al governo olandese di consentire ad un detenuto di scontare il suo ergastolo partecipando a un programma di risocializzazione un anno e mezzo prima della revisione della sentenza. L'obiettivo è il reinserimento sociale. L'uomo ha scontato 23.5 anni di carcere e ha fatto ricorso sulla base della sentenza Vinter, in cui la Corte EDU ha definito l'ergastolo inumano quando è "senza speranza di uscita" e ha obbligato gli stati membri a rivedere le pene dell'ergastolo dopo 25 anni. Il Segretario di Stato Dijkhoff sta al momento lavorando su questo.
