Un article du FBI avertit que les jouets intelligents ou "smart toys" peuvent contenir des mircrophone, caméras, GPS et systèmes de conservation des données et de reconnaissance vocale qui peuvent saisir des données personnelles. Les jouets, connectés à internet et au bluetooth sont faciles à pirater. Par exemple, la poupée Cayla, en Allemagne (Genesis Toys), a été interdite en raison des risques de piratage. La production d'appareils utilisant des informations sensibles concernant les enfants, afin de cibler les pubs et améliorer les interactions, ne cesse de croître.
