El ministro de Migración belgaTheo Francken ha estado bajo presión por organizar deportaciones de migrantes sudaneses. Varios de ellos denunciaron que los agentes sudaneses les torturaron al llegar. El primer ministro belga, Charles Michel, defendió a Francken de las acusaciones de haber mentido en este asunto. Michel dijo que Francken "no había dado toda la información" cuando anunció que no habría más deportaciones a Sudán antes de final de enero. De hecho, se programó un vuelo que luego se canceló. Michel anunció que se suspenden las deportaciones hasta que concluyan las investigaciones.
