Los políticos irlandeses han votado a favor de poner fin a la restricción constitucional del aborto y de permitirlo hasta las 12 semanas de embarazo. Tras la votación, los miembros del parlamento que integran el Comité Oireachtas sobre la Octava Enmienda han pedido la derogación del polémico artículo 40.3.3 de la Constitución, que prohíbe el aborto, y han pedido que se introduzcan nuevas leyes que despenalicen el aborto en algunos casos. Ahora la esperanza recae en que la sociedad vote a favor de la reforma en un referéndum el próximo mes de mayo.
