The European Court of Human Rights has upheld a French law from 2010 that bans the wearing of full-face veils in public. The law, which prohibits the wearing in public spaces of any clothing intended to cover one's entire face, imposes a fine of 150 euros. In its ruling, the ECtHR said that the ban "was not expressly based on the religious connotation of the clothing in question but solely on the fact that it concealed the face."
