For Czechs, living off benefits can be worse than stealing or killing a thief, according to a survey by the Public Opinion Research Center. Avoiding a job search while receiving support was described as totally immoral by 77 percent of respondents. Killing a suspected thief was deemed unacceptable by 41 percent of respondents. Infidelity, drugs and corruption were all seen as more acceptable than living from benefits and not looking for work. This highlights the stigma of poverty and excluded groups, as well as the emphasis placed on the economic value of the human individual in society.
