On Saturday, thousands of people demonstrated all over Germany against the criminalization of sea rescue organizations and the new proposal by Interior Minister Horst Seehofer, which threatens civil society actors who publish upcoming deportations dates with fines and prison sentences. Only last week, the CDU announced its ambition to deprive refugee councils of state funds if they prevent deportations. Mobilized by the EU-wide “Seebrücke” initiative and supported by more than 60 NGOs, clubs, initiatives and foundations, demonstrators called for more solidarity and safe havens for refugees.
