The antitrust watchdog of Germany plans to move against Facebook's data-gathering practice before the end of the year, after finding that the social media company abused its market dominance to gather data without people’s consent. The rest of Europe will closely follow what happens in Germany in light of the recent data scandal at Cambridge Analytica. In particular, Germany’s Federal Cartel Office will look into how Facebook acquires data from third-party apps like WhatsApp and Instagram. Germany does not plan to fine Facebook, but does want to see action and changes to address its concerns.
