Before any compromise can be reached, Poland should take action to address the EU’s concerns, the vice president of the European Commission has said. Frans Timmermans added that he can’t prejudge the success of continued dialogue until concrete measures are taken. Poland is accused of putting courts under the government's control. The justice minister has been given the power to fire court heads without justification and the terms of Supreme Court judges have been cut, retiring 40 percent of them. Last year, the EC triggered the procedure aimed at stripping Poland of EU voting rights.
