A High Court judge in Ireland has asked the EU Court of Justice for a ruling on whether Poland's recent legislative changes mean "the common value of the rule of law" and democracy have been significantly breached. The High Court is currently considering Poland's extradition request for a man who faces drug-trafficking charges. The man's lawyers have called this "the lead test case" in Europe on extradition to Poland. They oppose the extradition because the legislative changes directly impact the integrity and impartiality of the courts and Public Prosecutor's Office.
