The EU on Monday formally adopted new rules requiring border guards to register the entry, exit and refusal of entry information of non-EU nationals at external borders of the Schengen area. The plan, also referred to as the 'entry-exit system', aims to crack down on people who overstay their visas and improve the fight against terrorism. The new system will not be fully implemented until 2020.
