MEPs on Wednesday passed a resolution calling on Poland’s government to comply with the recommendations the EC had addressed to it with respect to the rule of law, failing which the so-called Article 7 procedure could be launched. Poland’s government has so far failed to respond to the concerns raised by the Commission regarding the legal reforms started back in 2015. Consequently, the EC has decided to prepare Article 7, which will be ratified if the measures are not reversed. The EP is particularly worried about changes to common-law courts and the retirement ages for judges.
