Despite its resolution adopted in May that called for the drafting of a report on whether to trigger 'Article 7' sanctions against Hungary, the European Parliament civil liberties committee voted on Monday not to send a fact-finding mission to Budapest. An EP source told Liberties the decision shows political will is waining when it comes to enforcing the rule of law in run-up to parliamentary elections in April 2018. Liberties finds it worrisome after the Parliament noted in its report a "serious deterioration of the rule of law and democracy" in Hungary.
