The consultative referendum on the new Intelligence and Security Act (Wiv) will be held simultaneously with the municipal elections on March 21, 2018. This was announced by the Electoral Council on November 2. The referendum was requested by 417,135 citizens, far exceeding the required 300,000 signatures to formally seek a referendum. Opponents fear that the Wiv, which gives security services more powers, would compromise people's privacy.
