European Commission First Vice-President Frans Timmermans is likely to get authorization from his fellow commissioners on Wednesday, July 26, to start legal probes into the controversial judicial reforms passed by Poland's Parliament. The development comes despite the Polish president's veto of two of the three amendments passed by MPs. The law he did sign allows the justice minister to fire the heads of lower courts, and the commission is likely to start an infringement procedure on it as soon as the law is published in the official journal.
