Italy has risen to 54th place from 97th in the Global Right to Information Rating thanks to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), a new law introduced in May 2016 that will enter into force on December 23, 2016. The FOIA makes it possible for all citizens to access public administration documents without needing to give any motivation for the enquiry. The law also obliges public administration officials to reply to citizens' inquiries. The introduction of the new law was made possible thanks to the work of Foia4Italy, a coalition led by Diritto di Sapere and supported by CILD.
