Hate Campaign Launched by Hungarian Government

The Hungarian government has announced a public referendum for October 2 on the obligatory resettlement quotas backed by a campaign driven by hate speech.

This is not the first time that the Hungarian government launches a nationwide hate campaign in order to gain popular support to strengthen its position regarding a political matter.

For the time being, posters appealing to public fears have only appeared on governmental portals, but, with the approaching referendum, it is likely that such massages will be posted in several locations all over the country.

While some members of the governing parties have admitted that its results had no compelling force upon Brussels, the stakes of the referendum are still high for the initiators: it could be embarrassing for them not to be able to pass the validity threshold for the referendum, which was raised precisely by the governing Fidesz-KDNP coalition.

As in the case of previous national campaigns against immigrants, the Hungarian Civil Liberties Union, once again, most resolutely denounces the hate propaganda started by the state.
