The European Transgender Council was held June 2-5 in Bologna to celebrate the achievements of the movement over the past 10 years. 3-day Council shows how the fight for the recognition of full equality is still long and complex.
This is the first time that Transgender Europe held its council meeting Italy, and it was done so under the motto "Transforming Europe."
According to Ottavia Voza, the representative of trans policies of Arcigay, this event is "an exceptional opportunity for discussion and debate on issues concerning self-determination and inclusion, involving groups and associations from all over Europe, including those countries where trans people live stigmatized and face transphobia."
Transgender Europe
Transgender Europe (TGEU) works for the equality of all trans people in Europe. It fights for a discrimination-free Europe, where everyone can live to their gender identity and gender expression without interference, and where trans people are respected and valued. It was first established in Vienna in 2005 and now has its office in Berlin.
TGEU has 90 member organizations in 42 countries, and all of the organizations are fighting for the same goal: to achieve and improve the legal recognition and protection of trans people.
'Transforming Europe'
The European Transgender Council is the first and largest gathering of political transgender activists in Europe. The council itself sets the agenda for transgender politics in Europe and celebrates the lively transgender community. It included workshops, conferences and other diverse cultural programs for three days. The summary of the 6th Council will be posted later on.
