Da aprile 2017 in Olanda tutte le donne in gravidanza potranno fare un nuovo test sulla sindrome di Down. Il Non-Invasive Prenatal Test (NIPT) è in grado di dimostrare se un feto ha la sindrome di Down in modo più sicuro e affidabile rispetto all'attuale test. Ogni anno migliaia di donne vanno in Germania o in Belgio per farlo. L'NIPT è un argomento delicato del dibattito presso la Camera dei Rappresentanti. Il Partito Cristiano (UC) e il Partito Riformista (PSC) temono una società 'Down-free', mentre gli altri partiti ritengono che le donne abbiano il diritto di sapere cosa le attende.
