"At a time when the space for civil society is shrinking in an increasing number of countries," the EU reaffirmed its commitment to support NGOs outside Europe. They expressed their opposition to any restrictions on freedom of association, expression and peaceful assembly that hinder the work of civil organizations while acknowledging their role in promoting civic freedoms. Liberties supports efforts to support NGOs abroad, but given their situation in Hungary, Poland, Romania and other countries where they are under attack, we call on the EC to come up with a similar scheme within the EU.
