After a new video showing police violence and illegal deportations at the Melilla border was released, Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muižnieks said that this was "another disturbing illustration of flaws in Spain’s treatment of migrants in its exclaves." Mr. Muižnieks also reminded Spain of its obligations toward the migrants and asylum seekers who reach its territory, which are "to examine their situations individually and allow them to seek asylum." He also urged the Spanish authorities to open an investigation "to establish accountability for police violence."
